  • Digital Volume Tomography (DVT)

    What is digital volume tomography?

The digital volume tomograph (DVT) produces three-dimensional X-ray images for the head, arms and legs within a few seconds. In addition, patients benefit from immediate availability in the practice and significantly reduced radiation exposure compared to a conventional CT.

The advantages of DVT compared to CT and “normal” two-dimensional projection X-ray

Images with CT are the most common X-ray method for three-dimensional examinations as well as projection X-ray for two-dimensional X-ray examinations -these are the common methods. The advantages of the specialized features of the DVT in the diagnosis of the cranium and extremities you can find below:

    • Everything on site – all by one doctor
The DVT can be used directly by the treating orthopedist on site. This leads to a quick diagnosis and subsequent therapy planning. Another advantage is the holistic treatment of the patient by a trusted physician, who can investigate ambiguities without losing time. Since everything is done on the spot, the patient gets through the treatment stress-free, which would otherwise prolonged for several days or weeks. A DVT directly avoids medical referrals as well as long waiting times and appointments in other practices.
    • Diagnostic within a few seconds
The digital volume tomography has been developed so that patients can experience relaxed diagnostics within a few seconds, spatially free and in a comfortable posture. For patients, this means that they do not have to assume strenuous positions to take images during two-dimensional X-rays. For children and patients with claustrophobia (colloquially known as “fear of being closed in”), this fast-imaging option is particularly suitable.
    • Impressive image quality
Three-dimensional sectional imaging with DVT offers very high image quality. This means that the doctor can detect even the smallest hairline fractures that could be missed in common procedures. The high resolution also benefits patients. The clear and impressive 3-D imaging makes it easier to discuss the findings with those affected and ensures better comprehension.
    • Low radiation exposure
To protect patients, DVT is equipped with protocols that produce images with a particularly low radiation exposure. Compared to conventional CT, DVT helps reduce radiation exposure by at least 50%. This is within the range of unavoidable radiation exposure to which one is exposed on a daily basis.
    • Recording under load
A major advantage is the possibility of taking images under normal or natural body load (e.g., while standing). These images allow symptoms that occur in everyday life to be diagnosed much more reliably and quickly. In addition, more information can be gleaned from these images than from the usual recordings.
