    2. Preparation and transplantation: The removed cartilage tissue is prepared and then implanted into the affected joints or in the area of cartilage damage. This process is minimally invasive, which means that it is carried out with as little intervention in the patient’s body as possible.

    Treatment practice for the AMT procedure

    After determination if the AMT procedure is suitable in your case, the procedure is carried out in three steps:

    1. Removal of the tissue
    • Preparation: The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia.
    • Tissue removal: 3 biopsies are taken from the ear cartilage using a special 2.5 mm diameter punch.
    2. Preparation of the tissue
    • Extraction: The removed tissue is prepared to make it usable for later micro transplantation.
    • Disaggregation: The preparation step includes the extraction and disaggregation of the tissue to obtain the micro implant.
    3. Micro transplantation
    • Injection: The obtained AMT solution is injected into the joint with the damaged cartilage. This step is comparable to a normal joint injection.

    Additional information:

    • Duration of effect:
      In younger patients (60 years and younger): effect lasts 5+ years
      In older patients: effect lasts 3+ years.
    • Contraindications:
      Not suitable for rheumatic patients.
      Not suitable for severe deformation of the ear cartilage.
    • Requirements for the donor tissue:
      Donor tissue must be elastic.
    • Waiting time after cortisone therapy:
      After cortisone therapy, you should wait 3-4 months, as inflammatory reactions are necessary for the treatment.
    • After treatment:
      Patients should not shower for 2 days (to ensure that the donor site (ear) does not get wet).

    Athletes can start rehab and recovery training after about 2-3 days and can start training fully again after about 2 weeks.

    Local antibiotics can be used at the donor site (ear).

    More treatments should not be carried out until 12 months later at the earliest.
