Denervation (thermocoagulation)

Sometimes our conservative therapies to reduce pain cannot help effectively. In such cases, an operation is usually required. However, there is another method to minimize acute, chronic pain: denervation.

What is denervation?

Denervation is the denaturation of the nerve sheath. In other words: the capping or obliteration of pain nerves. Before treatment, the nerve causing the pain is clearly identified as the source of the pain. A thermal probe is then inserted through the skin to the nerve in order to carry out the therapy. The whole process is electrothermal, i.e. using electrically generated heat.

Work is carried out with millimeter precision under constant X-ray control in order to perform the procedure under "vision".

Denervation is a largely pain-free process and guarantees freedom from pain for at least 8 - 24 months.

Denervations are typically performed on the spine. More specifically, on the facet joints and the SI joint. However, the shoulders, hips and knees can also be denervated.
